Subject: Appeal to take appropriate actions to save Betchari Rissho Kosei-Kai and the Buddhist institutions under it, namely, 1. Arjo Purush Bana Bhante Bidarshan Shikkha Kendra (Great Aryan Bana Bhante Meditation Centre), 2. Krishna Sen Kuthir and 3. Jyanajoti Kuthir situated in Bhuochari Mouza No. 264 under Sadar Upazila in Khagrachari district.

Sir,
With due respect, we would like to state that Betchari Rissho Kosei-Kai, a Buddhist institution, and three other institutions, namely, Arjo Purush Bana Bhante Bidarshan Shikkha Kendra, Krishna Sen Kuthir and Jyanajyoti Kuthir, are situated on 20 acres of land at Bhuochari Mouza No. 264 under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila in Khagrachari district.

Rissho Kosei-Kai is a Japan-based international Buddhist organization. Its website address is www.rkkbd.com. It has branches in different countries of the world. In Bangladesh, it has a total of 11 branches including at Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s bazar.

On 19 April 2014, Reverend Mitsuyuki Aritomi, Minister of the Bangladesh chapter of Rissho Kosei-Kai, laid foundation stone of its Khagrachari branch. However, it is a matter of regret that settlers from Bhuachari village under Khagrachari Sadar Upazila -- Achor Uddin, Yusuf Ali, Md. Sobhan, Mostafa Kamal, Khokan Islam, Md. Karim Member -- and some 30 – 40 other unidentified settlers destroyed the said foundation stone and took away its signboard. They have made fake and forged documents and are plotting to grab the properties of our institutions. They are also openly threatening that they would take over the properties of our institutions by creating communal riots. The fact is that the people in question have never been, nor are now, in possession of the said properties.

Previously, there was a Buddhist temple on the land of the institution. And there are still a 50-years old banyan tree as a symbol of Buddhist practice and different other fruit and wild trees on it. On a recommendation by the local Headman, an application for land settlement in favour of Rissho Kosei-Kai and the aforesaid institutions under it was submitted to the honourable Deputy Commissioner. Now, we, the religious inhabitants and the lay followers of the Buddhist institutions, fear that the settlers may any moment occupy the land of the aforesaid Buddhist institutions. If they do so, then that will cause immense harm to the Buddhist institutions. Therefore, we appeal to you to take necessary measures to save Rissho Kosei-Kai centre and the religious institutions under it.

Therefore, in light of the circumstances mentioned above, we pray to you to take necessary measures to save the landed properties of Rissho Kosei-Kai and the Buddhist institutions under it, namely, 1. Arjo Purush Bana Bhante Bidarshan Shikkha Kendra (Great Aryan Bana Bhante Meditation Centre), 2. Krishna Sen Kuthir and 3. Jyanajoti Kuthir.
